ISSUE 1173

SALES TAX EXEMPTION ON ELECTRICITY GOES INTO EFFECT

A new law expanding the sales tax exemption for electricity used in the production and processing of agricultural products becomes effective on July 1. HB 1199, which was sponsored by Rep. Bryan Nelson (R-Apopka) and Sen. Jeff Atwater (R-North Palm Beach), passed the Legislature April 27 and was signed on May 22 by Gov. Charlie Crist.

FFVA’s Governmental Relations Division is enclosing a special Capital Rap bulletin with this issue of Rap-Up that explains some of the ramifications of the bill. Also included is a “Suggested Purchaser’s Exemption Certificate” that can be filed with your electricity provider.

Producer Members who have questions about the new law may call Butch Calhoun at (850) 521-0455.
