ORIENTAL FRUIT FLIES FOUND IN ORANGE COUNTY

A USDA fruit-fly technician collected two suspect Oriental fruit flies from a sweet orange tree in the Winter Park area June 20 during routine trapping activities. The fruit flies were later confirmed by Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Division of Plant Industry entomologists.

The state will begin emergency program activities involving intensive trapping at an initial distance of 81 square miles from the find. About 530 traps will be placed to help in detection of other possible infestations in the area.
