FLORIDA AGENCY FOR WORKFORCE INNOVATION TO CONDUCT WAGE SURVEY

The Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation, Alien Labor Certification Section, recently announced that it will conduct a prevailing wage and employment practices survey of early and mid-season orange pickers during February. The survey will be conducted by mail and usually takes 15 minutes to complete. Some surveys may be conducted by phone.

General findings of the survey are published, however, the individual survey forms along with the names of the companies who participated are not released.

Results of these surveys are used by the U.S. Department of Labor for the purpose of approving or denying the employment of H-2A foreign agricultural guest workers. Results are also useful to the agricultural industry for the purposes of determining whether or not a company is paying the prevailing rate to its workers. Since the individual information is kept confidential and because the results provide useful information, your participation is strongly encouraged. Failure to participate by a large number of citrus employers adversely affects the results of the survey and hurts citrus employers employing H-2A foreign workers.
