GROWERS, OFFICIALS DISCUSS LATEST CANKER FINDINGS - MORE FUNDS NEEDED

As crews burned trees at Cobb Grove, a 30-acre grove in southwest Indian River County, Florida Department of Agriculture officials met Thursday (January 13) with members of the Indian River Citrus League to discuss the spread of citrus canker in the Treasure Coast area. Richard Gaskalla, chief of the state’s Division of Plant Industry, said that the recent hurricanes most likely caused many of the new outbreaks. League officials said they would ask Congress for additional funding for eradication efforts.
