ISSUE 1047
Under the recommendation of the USDA Agricultural Marketing Services' Fruit and Vegetable Programs, the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA) program, will close its Illinois and New Jersey offices. It was only last month that Florida cases were reassigned to the Illinois office. That office will continue to handle questions, complaints filed and other issues pertaining to Florida cases until the transfer takes place at a date to be announced later this year. The restructuring is aimed at keeping licensing fees affordable and adding efficiencies to the program. Additional changes recommended by the committee include establishing a national toll-free call center at the Washington, D.C. PACA headquarters, and increasing Web resources including the publication of a quarterly newsletter to be emailed to members of the fruit and vegetable industry. The newsletter is also posted at http://www.ams.usda.gov/fv/paca.htm. See this website for additional information, or call FFVA's Marketing & International Trade Division at (321) 214-5200.
