BILL TO REVISE LICENSE AND BOND LAW APPROVED BY SENATE AG COMMITTEE

The Florida Senate Agriculture Committee approved a bill Wednesday (March 23) that would make changes to the Florida License and Bond Law to better serve the needs of the state's agriculture industry.

The House Agriculture Committee approved a companion measure February 23.

Among its provisions, the Agricultural Products Dealer bill would increase penalties, fees and fines imposed by the law, originally enacted in 1941, resulting in an estimated 50 percent increase in bond coverage and protection for Florida producers, according to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. If passed, the changes would go into effect October 1, 2005.
