SENATOR PUSHES FOR FARMWORKER REFORM

Senator Tony Hill (D-Jacksonville), who represents a 5 county region in Northeast Florida, has scheduled a town hall meeting for 6:00 p.m., July 13, at Calvary Family Life Center in Palatka. In an effort to improve working/living conditions for farmworkers, Senator Hill has sponsored farmworker legislation in each of the past three legislative sessions.

According to FFVA’s Butch Calhoun, most of Senator Hill's proposed legislation has been unfriendly to Florida growers and did not pass. Senator Hill is hoping that the meeting will provide an opportunity for growers, farmworkers, advocates and others to discuss reform options that can be supported by the agricultural community. Growers in the Tri-County Agricultural area (Putnam, Flagler, and St. Johns Counties) are encouraged to participate in the meeting.
