ISSUE 1092 With time running short
to secure federal funding for growers who suffered hurricane damage this year,
FFVA staff will go to Washington, D.C. this week (December 5) to urge lawmakers
to pass relief legislation. Congress will be
in session for only a couple of weeks before the end of the year, and passage
of the Agriculture Hurricane Recovery Act of 2005 or another relief vehicle is
by no means secured. FFVA hopes a mechanism for relief funding will be approved
as soon as possible. Senator Mel Martinez and
Representative Mario Diaz-Balart introduced the Agriculture Hurricane Recovery
Act in mid-November. Both versions were still in committee as of Rap-Up
deadline. ALSO IN THIS WEEK'S RAP-UP (Members-Only articles are indicated in bold.) FFVA
