- FFVA PUSHES FOR HURRICANE RELIEF FUNDS
-
- FFVA's
Mike Stuart and Ray Gilmer met with several members of Florida's congressional
delegation last week in Washington to shore up support for passage of hurricane
disaster assistance legislation.
-
- Similar
bills in the House and Senate, introduced by Senator Mel Martinez and Representative
Mario Diaz-Balart, would provide assistance to producers of citrus, vegetables,
tropical fruits and other Florida crops.
-
- "Congress
intends to pass this legislation before the Christmas recess," said Stuart.
-
- Also, FFVA met with staff of the
House and Senate Appropriations Committees to discuss possible funding mechanisms
for the bills. While nothing is certain, funding via the defense spending bill
or a national weather assistance package seems to be a possible option.
