May 21, 2007 ISSUE 1167 LAKE OKEECHOBEE BASIN PERMIT DATES EXTENDED The Governing Board of the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) issued an order May 10 extending the water use permit application dates and expiration dates for the Lake Okeechobee Basin. This decision was made to free up district permit review staff who are currently working to address serious water supply problems caused by the drought. SFWMD will now initiate a rule development process to change the application date from June 30, 2007 to October 30, 2008 for water use permit renewals in this basin and the permit expiration date for current permits in this basin from October 30, 2007 to February 28, 2009. Based on this action by SFWMD, growers should not submit water use permit renewal applications until they receive a renewal notice from the District.
