HOMETOWN DEMOCRACY COLLECTS NEARLY HALF OF NEEDED SIGNATURES

FFVA Members should be aware that the “Hometown Democracy” initiative has nearly reached the halfway point in acquiring the number of petition cards necessary for placement on the statewide ballot.

Florida land owners must now presume the Hometown Democracy initiative will appear on the 2008 ballot and communicate with voters regarding the potential negative impacts of this referendum on property rights and Florida's economy. The amendment would require every property owner in the state who desires to change future land use to win majority support for this request in a direct public vote or referendum.

For additional information, FFVA Producer Members may contact the Government Affairs Division at (850) 521-0455.
