FLORIDA HOUSE, SENATE PROPOSE IFAS FUNDING AMOUNTS

The Florida House and Senate have released preliminary budget allocations for The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.

The House of Representatives' total for IFAS Research and Education is $133.615 million, which represents a 2.8 percent overall budget cut. IFAS teaching, a part of the university’s Education and General Line, received an overall budget cut of 3.7%.

On the Senate side, its Higher Education Appropriations Committee’s numbers reflected a budget decrease of $2.468 million, or 1.7 percent.

The full committees are expected to vote on these bills by April 2. In the meantime, FFVA, as part of the Florida Ag Coalition, will be watching for amendments and monitoring the process. Competition for available funds is expected to be fierce
