FFVA TELLS EPA PROPOSED FUMIGANT CHANGES TOO COMPLEX TO IMPLEMENT AT SPECIFIC SITES

In comments submitted Oct. 28 to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, FFVA stated that the agency’s recently proposed mitigation requirements for fumigant reregistration will be unnecessarily difficult to implement given the diversity of Florida production.

The comments echo the key point of the Oct. 6 Environmental & Pest Management member bulletin: “FFVA is of the opinion that the mitigation requirements as proposed in the specific label language in each Registration Eligibility Decision would preclude use of these products in many of their currently approved use sites.”

FFVA also stated in its comments that the association has provided EPA with tours of fumigation sites and other direct input, and that it is difficult to explain to its membership why the “very significant changes in use practices proposed by these documents are necessary in light of the extremely rare occurrence of the type of exposures referenced in the risk mitigation proposals.”
