CHILDREN LEARN ABOUT AGRICULTURE ON AG DAY

More than 900 volunteers read a children's book about farming to more than 40,000 Florida school children statewide Thursday (March 17) as part of Florida's second annual Agriculture Literacy Day. The volunteers — farmers, ranchers, industry representatives and FFA students — also talked with the students about agriculture's importance to their communities.

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Bronson, Florida State Representative Marty Bowen, members of the Florida Senate and House Agriculture Committees, an official from the Florida Department of Education and representatives of the agriculture industry and the event's sponsor, Florida Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc., kicked off the event with a press conference Monday in the Cabinet Room of the Capitol in Tallahassee. Commissioner Bronson read How Groundhog's Garden Grew, this year's designated Agriculture Literacy Day book, to a kindergarten class from Roberts Elementary School in Tallahassee as part of the press conference.
