SENATE CONFIRMS CONNER AS USDA DEPUTY SECRETARY

The U.S. Senate Wednesday (April 27) confirmed Indiana's Chuck Conner as Deputy Secretary of Agriculture. Currently special assistant to the president for food, agriculture and trade policy, Conner said he would fill the role of "reconciliation person" between Congress and the White House on ag budget issues.

President Bush must now approve Conner’s confirmation. It is expected that Bush will make Conner's appointment official early next week.
