ISSUE 1070 SENATE PASSES DR-CAFTA The U.S. Senate Thursday (June 30) passed the
Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Act (CAFTA), which
will extend free trade policies to the Dominican Republic and
a handful of Central American countries. President Bush has endorsed
the pact, but it faces opposition from the sugar industry, some
labor interests and others. The bill now goes to the House where
passage may be more difficult. ALSO IN THIS WEEK'S RAP-UP (Members-Only articles are indicated in bold.)
