RAIN, LABOR SHORTAGE CAUSE DECLINE IN CITRUS
The final crop estimates for the 2004-05 citrus season show the total orange crop at 149.6 million boxes, down from 151.3 million boxes predicted in June. The drop translates into a 38 percent decline from the 2003-04 figure of 242 million boxes.
Rainy weather cut back picking days in June and
many workers avoided Florida this season, thinking that last years
hurricanes would mean less work would be available.
