FFVA PARTICIPATING IN FARM BILL INDUSTRY DISCUSSIONS

A national produce industry coalition, including FFVA, is working to craft recommendations for provisions in the 2007 farm bill. In the past two weeks, FFVA staff participated in strategy sessions focusing on conservation and nutrition programs.

Conservation provisions within the next farm bill could bolster resources for agricultural landowners to help them meet environmental goals. And boosting nutrition spending could benefit producers by getting more fruits and vegetables into schools and other feeding programs.

"Nutrition and conservation are just two of the areas the industry is working on for the next farm bill," said Ray Gilmer, FFVA director of public affairs. "We're working on pests and disease programs, trade, research and more, but these discussions are at an early stage and funding will be very tight."

FFVA's Annual Convention in September features a session previewing produce industry goals in the 2007 farm bill. Visit www.ffva.com for more information or call (321) 214-5200.
