USDA AWARDS $9 MILLION TO PROMOTE PRODUCE CONSUMPTION IN SCHOOLS

USDA announced Friday (September 2) it will award $9 million to 225 schools in eight states and three Indian Tribal Organizations participating in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. The money will allow the schools to purchase locally-grown fruits and vegetables to be distributed to students.

This builds on the 2002 Fruit and Vegetable Pilot Program where 25 schools participated. FFVA and the Produce for Better Health Foundation have fought hard for the funding and will continue to fight to expand the program to all 50 states.
