CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS: FUNDS RAISED FOR RCMA, AWARDS ANNOUNCED

Redlands Christian Migrant Association will receive $56,700 from funds generated through auctions held Tuesday at FFVA’s 62nd Annual Convention.

The silent and live auctions brought in $36,700 and the remaining funds were donated by a group of generous members of the agriculture community in an effort known as "Above and Beyond." The money will be matched dollar for dollar by funds pledged at an earlier fundraiser, and will be used to build a sixth grade classroom at RCMA’s new school.

Also at the convention, two Publix executives received the Merchandiser of the Year Award for their efforts in promoting Florida strawberries; longtime extension agent John L. Jackson Jr. was named Researcher of the Year; Joshua Freeman, a University of Florida student working on a Ph.D. in horticulture, received the $1,000 Syngenta Scholarship; and Representative Dwight Stansel was named Legislator of the Year.
