USDA TO RELEASE $200 MILLION FOR CANKER COMPENSATION

On the heels of its September 30th announcement earmarking $53.75 million to fight citrus canker, USDA said Wednesday (October 5) it will provide $200 million in disaster funding to compensate commercial citrus growers in Florida for losses suffered as a result of citrus canker. Funds will be distributed according to those who lost groves first. Industry officials will continue to seek additional money because as much as $500 million in reimbursement funds are actually needed.
