OFFICIALS, SCIENTISTS DETERMINING STRATEGY TO FIGHT CITRUS GREENING

With citrus greening spreading rapidly through the state, scientists and state and federal regulatory officials have been trying to develop a workable strategy to battle the disease.

In an October 20 conference call, scientists said eradication was not possible because of the length of time the disease has been in the state, as well as it being spread by an insect. They also said that diagnostic tools are not sufficient enough to thoroughly detect its presence.

At Rap-Up deadline, officials are meeting in Orlando to further discuss the disease, its implications and strategies for managing its consequences.
