ISSUE 1092
The recovery
strategies identified are designed to slow saltwater intrusion, restore aquifer
levels, and improve lake levels and stream flows without stifling economic expansion
in the region. These strategies include resource development projects, improved
conservation, and changes to the regulations on water use. Through
participation in the district's Agricultural Advisory Committee and the SWUCA
Workgroup, FFVA has participated in the development of the proposed regulations.
Butch Calhoun, FFVAs director, Government
Affairs Division, said, "The proposed rules will definitely raise the bar
for all new water users in the SWUCA. Our primary goal throughout this process
has been to protect the rights of existing agricultural users and make sure that
reasonable options are available for new users in the future." The
Governing Board will vote on the proposed new SWUCA rules at their February 21-22
meeting if outstanding issues are resolved. The Recovery Strategy and proposed
draft rules are available on the district's
website. If you would like to comment on these draft rules, you must provide
your comments to the district no later than Friday, December 9. ALSO IN THIS WEEK'S RAP-UP (Members-Only articles are indicated in bold.) FFVA
