STUART, OTHER FLORIDA LEADERS NAMED TO FRUIT AND VEGETABLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

FFVA President Mike Stuart is among those named Tuesday (January 17) to the newly re-chartered Fruit and Vegetable Industry Advisory Committee. Other representatives from Florida are FFVA Member Dan Richey, Riverfront Groves; and John Shelford, Global Berry Farms.

"I'm very honored with the appointment and look forward to working with others in the industry to pursue a positive agenda with USDA," said Stuart. "It comes at a very critical time, as we figure out how the fruit and vegetable industry will fit into the next farm bill," he added.

Originally chartered in 2001, the committee advises Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns on issues affecting the fruit and vegetable industry. Johanns approved a new two-year charter for the committee in June 2005.

The 25 members were nominated by their peers and represent growers/shippers, wholesalers, retailers, trade associations, importers, processors, foodservice suppliers, fresh-cut processors, brokers and state departments of agriculture. The committee's first meeting will be held in Spring 2006 in the Washington, D.C. area.
