APHIS
PREPARES RISK ASSESSMENTS ON IMPORTS, ALLOWS KOREAN PEPPERS USDA
Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced in editions of last
weeks Federal Register that it has prepared risk assessments relative to
two proposed rules of interest to Florida growers. The first examines importation
of fresh Hass avocados from Peru. The second risk assessment relates to a proposal
to require imported fruits and vegetables arriving in airline passenger baggage
to be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate. APHIS is requesting public comment
on both by July 24. In
addition, APHIS announced that it is amending the fruits and vegetables regulations
to allow the importation into the continental United States of peppers from the
Republic of Korea under certain conditions. The
