WHOLE FOODS TO BACK SMALL ORGANIC GROWERS

In response to criticism in the book The Omnivore's Dilemma, by food writer Michael Polan, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey announced in late June that his company would make $10 million available to support the growth of local and small organic farms.

The money will be used to make low-interest loans to farmers who have been concerned that Whole Foods’ use of larger organic farms threatened to put them out of business.
