FORMER FFVA PRESIDENT ROY VANDEGRIFT, JR. PASSES AWAY

Roy Vandegrift, Jr., FFVA president during the late 1950s, passed away July 13 after battling cancer and heart failure.

Roy Vandegrift, Jr., a farming pioneer and leader in the Glades, died July 13 after battling cancer and heart failure. He was 85.

A successful sugar cane and produce farmer, Mr. Vandegrift was a leader in organizing and nurturing cooperative farming organizations for half a century. He served as president of both FFVA and the Florida Sugar Cane League, and was a director and executive committee member of the Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida.

Mr. Vandegrift is survived by his son, Roy Vandegrift, III of South Carolina; two daughters, Juanita Vee Vandegrift of South Carolina and Trena McManus of Virginia; and a stepson, John Cook of Dunedin, Florida.

FFVA offers its condolences to the Vandegrift family.
