SURVEY SAYS FLORIDA CITRUS ACREAGE IS DOWN A
USDA survey published September 15 shows all acreage in Florida devoted
to citrus is down for 2006. The report says that the 2006 total is 621,373, down
17.0 percent in a two-year period noted for hurricanes, diseases, and urban development.
The net change, a loss of 127,182 acres, is the greatest in any non-freeze period
and second overall. The Indian River District bore one-third of this loss.
