USDA SURVEY SAYS FLORIDA CITRUS ACREAGE IS DOWN

A USDA survey published September 15 shows all acreage in Florida devoted to citrus is down for 2006. The report says that the 2006 total is 621,373, down 17.0 percent in a two-year period noted for hurricanes, diseases, and urban development. The net change, a loss of 127,182 acres, is the greatest in any non-freeze period and second overall. The Indian River District bore one-third of this loss.
