GRAVES
REMEMBERED AS INDUSTRY ICON Citrus
veteran James Richard Graves Jr. was remembered last week as a devoted family
man, industry giant and business leader after he died Tuesday, Nov. 28, of a cancer-related
illness. Graves was former president and CEO of Graves Brothers Co. of Wabasso, the oldest company that still grows and ships Indian River citrus. He
was a giant in every aspect of life, a great civic and business leader. He was
a man of political influence, and our families were very close, former Florida
Gov. Bob Graham told a reporter for Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers. Graham
and Graves were fraternity brothers at Sigma Nu at the University of Florida.
Graves
served on the board of directors of United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association
from 1982 to 1984, as chairman in 1987 and treasurer from 1992 to 1996. He also
served on the Florida Citrus Commission from 1980 to 1983 and as president of
the Florida Citrus Packers Inc. in 1978. From 1978 to 1981, he also was a member
of the board of directors for Florida Citrus Mutual. Memorial
contributions may be made to RCMA. ALSO IN THIS WEEK'S RAP-UP (Members-Only
