In
signing his first executive order Wednesday (January 3), Gov. Charlie Crist created
an Open Government office, which will ensure that public records are made more
readily available and clearer language is used in government documents.
As
family members and reporters looked on, Crist explained he was creating the office
after newspaper editorial boards said they were made to wait months for records
requests to be processed. And he said the Plain Language initiative
will make documents more comprehendible to the public.
"You
hear people throw out these acronyms and it's government gobbledygook," Crist
said.
