PROGRAM OFFERS AFFORDABLE HOMES FOR WORKERS

Homes In Partnership, Inc. (HIP) is seeking farmworkers and others in need of safe, affordable housing. Since 1975, HIP has provided more than 3,500 families in Orange, Lake, Sumter, and Seminole counties with single-family housing through its mutual self help program.

In this program, home buyers work in groups under the direction of construction supervisors who are on site to assist with and monitor their “sweat equity” requirements to ensure participation goals are met. Supervisors coordinate the work efforts of the homebuyer, subcontractors and volunteers.

In addition, education and counseling services are offered through HIP’s HUD-certified program to help qualify applicants interested in participating in the mutual self-help housing program to obtain government-subsidized mortgage loans.

Orange, Lake, and Seminole growers employing workers who may qualify for the program are urged to have them contact HIP at (352) 383-7300. Those in Sumter County may call (352) 748-7700. Additional information is posted at www.hippage.com.
