CITRUS SHIPPING RULE COMING IN APRIL

USDA officials said Feb. 1 that a new, final federal rule governing the shipment of fresh Florida citrus to other states should be ready by April. It is, however, unclear whether the rule will lead to the lifting of a statewide canker quarantine prohibiting shipment of fresh citrus to other citrus-producing states.

After the July draft is presented, USDA will seek comments from citrus officials in Florida and other states. The final rule should go into effect on or about Oct. 1.
