April 9, 2007 ISSUE 1161 UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND SCIENTIST TO HEAD NEW UF RESEARCH UNIT The University of Florida has named Dr. J. Glenn Morris Jr., a University of Maryland research scientist, to lead a new unit that will conduct studies and offer ways to help control new disease-causing microorganisms that can affect plants, animals and humans. The newly created the Emerging Pathogens Institute has secured state funding for a 100,000-square-foot building, which will house a team of research specialists.
