May 7, 2007 ISSUE 1165 DELAURO, GILCHREST INTRODUCE VERSION OF FARM BILL Reps. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn, and Wayne Gilchrest, R-Md., introduced their version of a farm bill May 3. The Farm, Nutrition and Community Investment Act calls for expansion of conservation programs, funding for consumer marketing, expanded consumer access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and support for specialty crop and dairy producers. DeLauro, who chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, said the bill was crafted with the needs of her region in mind, but that it’s now picking up support from other parts of the country. She said she spoke about the bill with House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN) who said that his ag committee likely will include some of DeLauro's ideas when it writes the farm bill. | |
