GOVERNORS REMIND CONGRESS OF STATES’ FARM BILL PRIORITIES

The governors of Florida, New York, California and Texas wrote to four members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives agricultural committees to remind them why the 2007 Farm Bill is so important to their states.

The letter to Chairman Harkin, Sen. Chambliss, Chairman Peterson and Rep. Goodlatte, listed six priorities: specialty crops, invasive species,
crop insurance, conservation, nutrition and organic agriculture.

“We understand that legislation of this scope and complexity involves a long and arduous process to realize final completion,” the letter said, conlcuding that the governors “hope that as the legislative process continues, we can be a resource for you and your staffs as you consider these and many other important issues.”
