FARM TO FUEL CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS NEW INITIATIVES

Gov. Charlie Crist joined Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson July 19-20 at the 2007 Farm to Fuel Summit in stressing the need for Florida to help develop alternative energy sources.

A highlight of the event was Florida Power and Light’s announcement of the signing of a letter of intent with Citrus Energy LLC of Boca Raton to build a 4-million gallon plant that will use citrus peels to make ethanol.
In his keynote address, the governor also announced plans to lead a trade mission to São Paulo, Brazil to explore climate-friendly trade and technology.

The Florida Farm to Fuel Initiative evolved from Commissioner Bronson’s involvement in the national “25x’25” program. The goal of “25x’25” is to produce 25 percent of America’s energy needs from renewable sources by 2025.
