PRODUCE FOR BETTER HEALTH, CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL OFFER NEW RESOURCES

With 90 percent of Americans failing to meet their daily recommendations for fruit and vegetable consumption, the Produce for Better Health Foundation and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have teamed to make fruit and veggies top-of-mind for parents and children during September.

The CDC has developed a kit of ideas and resources, Explore the World with Fruits & Vegetables, which includes a guide for professionals that offers ideas that fit within existing curricula and print materials to use in schools and other child-focused organizations. These materials can be found at www.fruitsandveggiesmatter.gov.

September also marks the first National Fruits & Veggies – More Matters Month. The effort is a national public health initiative launched in March by PBH and CDC in cooperation with The Culinary Institute of America and other partners, including the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The campaign is designed to encourage Americans to eat more fruits and vegetables – fresh, frozen, canned, dried and 100 percent juice. It follows the former 5 A Day for Better Health campaign. Go to www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org for details.

Additional information about More Matters Month will appear in the September issue of Harvester Online at www.ffva.com.
