AG LITERACY DAY MOVES TO APRIL

In a move to correspond with the late start this year of Florida’s school year, Florida Agriculture in the Classroom has scheduled Agriculture Literacy Day a month later than usual. It will be held Thursday, April 10, 2008. Florida ag industry volunteers are encouraged to sign up early to read a children’s book developed especially for the occasion. These Florida Farms was created by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Division of Marketing to celebrate the occasion’s fifth anniversary.

The department’s Gary Seamans and Mike Wright wrote and illustrated, respectively, the book that follows two students on a “safari” from a grocery store to farms around the state to learn about different commodities produced in Florida.

Registration for Ag Literacy Day begins in early 2008. Details will soon be available at www.agtag.org.
