CITRUS SHOW FOCUSES ON CHALLENGES

The annual Indian River Citrus Seminar enjoyed a good turnout Jan. 23-24 for presentations relating to citrus canker and greening and other challenges facing Florida’s citrus industry.

Among the topics covered were packinghouse experiences with citrus canker after USDA ended preharvest grove inspections of Florida citrus and how to manage the problem of abandoned groves.

The event also showcased industry suppliers and services and exhibited samples of new varieties of grapefruit and oranges being developed by USDA’s Fort Pierce horticultural research center and the University of Florida’s Citrus Research Education Center at Lake Alfred
