SENATE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE APPROVES EMERGENCY AG RELIEF PROVISION

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved legislation offered by California Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Idaho Sen. Larry Craig on May 15 to address the nationwide agriculture labor shortage. The measure was approved as part of the Senate’s Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill.

The Feinstein-Craig bill streamlines the current H-2A agricultural guest-worker program and provides temporary immigration status for experienced farm workers over a five-year-period.

The Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill was reported out of the Appropriations Committee and is expected to be considered by the full Senate the week of May 19.
