HOMETOWN DEMOCRACY FILES SUIT TO PUT INITIATIVE BEFORE VOTERS

Florida Hometown Democracy, Inc. asked a federal court June 11 to put the group's contested ballot initiative before voters in November. The suit argues that the state mishandled the citizens initiative petition process, a release states.

The state ruled at the time that Florida Hometown Democracy failed to get the number of signatures required to make the November ballot. Hometown Democracy, Inc.'s petition drive, if passed, would require every comprehensive plan change in every county and municipality to be pre-approved by a referendum.
