ALL ORANGE FORECAST AT 166 MILLION BOXES

The USDA Agricultural Statistics Board’s 2008-09 Florida all orange forecast (including Temples) released Oct. 10 is 166 million boxes. The figure is 2.5 percent less than the 170.2 million boxes recorded as final production last season. It is 32 percent below the record high of 244 million boxes (not including Temples) in the 1997-98 season.

The forecast includes later variety Valencia oranges at 78 million boxes, early-midseason Navels at 88 million and all grapefruit at 23 million boxes.
