SHOOTING
FOR AGRICULTURE
CLAY
SHOOT TO RAISE FUNDS TO BENEFIT AGRICULTURE IN UPCOMING ELECTIONS
Maitland,
Fla. (January 19, 2006) - The FFVA Political Action Committee (PAC) will test
the skills of members of the Florida agriculture community at its second fundraising
"Sporting Clay Shoot," February 28, 2006 at Quail Creek Plantation near
Okeechobee, Florida.
The
organization's first event, held in April 2004, provided a day of friendly competition,
great food, and prizes. The 2004 event also proved to be the most successful FFVA/PAC
fundraiser ever, raising approximately $28,000 that was put to work for the good
of the industry in state races that year.
"This
is an important investment in our industry's future," said David Neill, PAC
chairman. "We have key races coming up this year that will directly affect
the future of agriculture and associated industries in Florida," he said.
Those
races include open seats for governor, attorney general, chief financial officer,
eight state senate districts, and 24 state representative districts along with
Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Charlie Bronson running for
re-election.
"With
increasing urban development in this state, it's more important than ever to elect
lawmakers who understand the importance agriculture plays in our economy and our
way of life," said Mike Stuart, FFVA president.
Florida
Fruit & Vegetable Association is an agricultural trade organization representing
Florida's producers of fruits, vegetables and other crops.
