SENATE AG COMMITTEE PASSES DEVELOPMENT BILL

The Florida Senate Agriculture Committee reversed itself April 3 and passed SB 2246,
which would allow owners of farmland that is surrounded by non-farm uses the right to develop land in keeping with the surrounding area.

The measure would give landowners the right to densities equal to the average of development in a three-mile radius around their property. It also would give those landowners legal advantages should a municipality challenge development plans.

The committee initially defeated the measure 4-2, but three members changed their votes on April 3, bringing the vote to 7-1 in favor of the bill
