PUBLICATION SURVEYS GROWERS ON POTENTIAL IFAS BUDGET CUTS

As the debate continues over the funding of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, the editor of Florida Grower magazine said it will be “digging into the importance of services provided by the school to growers and agriculture in general.”

As part of the publication’s coverage, it is surveying growers who receive its electronic newsletter. The survey was scheduled to be sent Friday via e-mail in the form of a "survey monkey" questionnaire.

Growers are urged to fill out the brief survey because “it will give them a strong voice in this debate regarding their view of IFAS.”

A Lakeland Ledger blog reported Feb. 21 the volume of letters supporting IFAS funding being sent to UF President Bernie Machen is unprecedented.

Writer Kevin Bouffard reported in his Citrus Pulp Wash blog that Machen’s office had received about 30 letters and e-mails as of last week and another 32 this week. “The UF Board of Trustees also received a couple dozen missives,” he wrote. “The mail continues to pour in and from highly influential people and groups.”
