ISSUE 1210

VOLUNTEERS INVITED TO READ FOR AG LITERACY DAY

Florida agriculture industry volunteers interested in reading to school classrooms for Florida Agriculture Literacy Day should register soon.

On April 10, hundreds of farmers, ranchers, growers, agriculture industry representatives and others will read "These Florida Farms," a special children's book developed for this year's event. The number of industry volunteers who participate in Ag Literacy Day has doubled to 1,500 since it began in 2003.

Registration is available online at Florida Ag in the Classroom's Web site (http://www.agtag.org) for the first time. March 28 is the deadline for volunteers who plan to read on April 10. Allow 10 days for books, lessons and packets for teachers to be delivered.

Volunteers are asked to schedule their classroom visits at least two weeks before their readings. For details, contact Lisa Gaskalla at (352) 846-1391 or faitc@ifas.ufl.edu.
