SUMMIT FINDINGS SPUR NATIONAL PLAN TO FIGHT CITRUS GREENING

USDA has announced the findings from a meeting held last December between federal, state and industry leaders to improve America’s defense against citrus greening and its insect vector, the Asian citrus psyllid.

Key needs identified included a strong and decisive national leadership, enhanced and coordinated research, increased funding to support a wide array of activities, and improved communication among all federal, state and industry sectors.
In response, USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service will develop a national plan to target these pests. As a first step, APHIS will select a national citrus greening/Asian citrus psyllid coordinator who will lead the effort in the development of the national plan
.
