SENATE COMMITTEE FAILS TO CONFIRM SWFWMD EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Senate Ethics and Elections Committee confirmed executive directors of four state water management districts in late April, but not Dave Moore, who for five years has been executive director of the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

The SWFWMD Governing Board said April 29 that the Senate's failure to confirm Moore was not related to his job performance. “Board members are very happy with Mr. Moore's performance and have just voted to rehire him for a term that expires on the last day of the 2009 legislative session, if the Senate fails to confirm him this year,” said Alan Peirce, FFVA’s regulatory affairs manager. “If they do confirm him this year, the motion has no effect and Mr. Moore will continue as the executive director indefinitely. If, however, Mr. Moore fails to receive Senate confirmation for two consecutive years, he would be forced out of the position and the governing board would have to hire a new executive director,” said Peirce.
